ORDERING, SHIPPING & RETURNS
How long will it take to ship my order?
We usually get orders printed and shipped in 3-4 days. However, it can take longer if we need an item from a supplier or during especially busy times. Some important things to keep in mind:
- We print most of our items to order, so we don't keep a large stock of pre-printed items on hand.
- We hand print all of our items, so it can take a little longer. We are not a mass production shirt factory.
- We put personal care into every order that goes out the door. We have high quality standards and take time to make sure everything is done right. Sometimes that can take a little longer.
Please be aware that the COVID situation has been a pretty big disruption to how we've normally done business. It has slowed us down and orders are taking longer. USPS shipping times are taking longer, and restocks are taking a little longer, too. We really appreciate our customer's patience during this time.
What are my shipping options?
We ship most of our packages via the US Postal Service. Our standard shipping is via First Class mail and is free on orders over $75. We offer Priority mail and UPS shipping upgrade options during checkout if you need it more quickly. If you do choose Priority Mail or UPS, we'll process those orders more quickly, knowing you want your stuff right away. If there's some urgency to your order, if you need it for a gift by a particular date, please put a note on order when you submit it. We'll make sure it gets processed in time.
Please keep in mind that with the ongoing COVID situation , the USPS has been kind of a mess. Packages are taking longer and sometimes getting stuck for several days.

There's a mistake with my order, what now?
We do our absolute best to make sure everything is right with every order. Sometimes mistakes will happen. If you're missing an item, got the wrong size, or the wrong shirt, we'll make sure it gets fixed. Please send us an email at email@example.com, let us know your order number and what the issue is. We'll get it resolved ASAP.
I didn't get an order confirmation or tracking number.
We send out order confirmation emails, shipping confirmation emails, along with other updates about your order. Please check the email address you used when you placed the order. Sometimes the wrong email gets entered, the email will bounce, and we have no way to contact you. Also, please check spam folders or the "Promotions" tab if you're a Gmail user. The email will come from firstname.lastname@example.org. If you do use Gmail, please drag or move the email to your "Primary" folder so you'll see these a little easier.

If for any reason you're not completely satisfied, we accept returns within 21 days of the receipt of your package. Items can be returned for store credit or a refund to the original form of payment.
We offer free return shipping on returns for store credit.
There is a $5 return shipping and processing fee for refunds. This will be deducted from the refund amount.
Merchandise must be unworn, unwashed and in its original condition with all tags attached. Please be careful if you try something on! Perfumes and cologne will stay in the fabric and these items are then NOT in original condition. Also, please be careful for any pet hair that may stick to clothing. This is also NOT considered to be in original condition. Thank you!!
Original shipping costs are not refundable.
Items marked FINAL SALE are not eligible for return. This will be clearly marked in the product description.
Gift cards cannot be returned or refunded.
Masks are not eligible for return or refund and are considered final sale items due to safety and sanitary reasons.
International orders are not eligible for return, refund, nor exchange due to customs issues. Exceptions will be made for defects, please send an email to email@example.com with pictures and a description of the issue.
If you're considering ordering multiple sizes to try things on - PLEASE contact us before ordering. We can give you personal guidance on fit and sizing. We would rather have you get the right size the first time. Thank you!
HOW TO COMPLETE A RETURN OR EXCHANGE
Please visit our RETURN PAGE to start the process. You'll need your order number and the email address used with the order.
During the return process, you will be prompted to choose a return for store credit or refund to the original form of payment.
You'll get an email confirming your return request was submitted.
We'll review the request and you'll get a follow-up email when it's been approved. It usually takes us two or three days to review the return request. We appreciate your patience.
Return approvals will contain a link to download a prepaid USPS return shipping label.
We offer free return shipping on returns for store credit.
There is a $5 return shipping fee for refunds. This will be deducted from the refund amount.
Store credits will be issued in the form of a gift card which can be used to purchase another size, color, or style. We find this easier than handling exchange orders.
For refunds, when we receive the original item back, we'll inspect it and issue the refund to the original form of payment. Please note that it could take up to 14 days for us to fully process your refund.

My package didn't get delivered, my package is stuck in transit, or other delivery issues.
We send a tracking number with every package. Once we drop the package with the carrier, there's really nothing more we can do to control how or when it gets delivered. Lately, USPS delivery times have not been reliable. We usually do not have packages go completely missing, but sometimes it can take much longer time to get delivered. We know it's frustrating. It's really frustrating for us because we try hard to make sure customers are happy. Believe it when we say that we'd love to know more about why your package has gone to four different distribution centers, and is now stuck for five days in another city. The problem is that we have absolutely no control or influence once we ship it out. If for some reason, a package gets completely lost, the first step is to contact the carrier. If it's USPS, your local post office is the first place to start. If you can't get any resolution with the carrier, please let us know and we'll do our best to find a solution.

PRODUCTS - FIT, QUALITY, SIZING
Who designs and prints your shirts?
We do! All of our designs are done in-house and almost everything is hand-printed by us.
We get design inspiration from a lot of places. Sometimes it's from current events, or an idea from a friend. Mostly, the ideas come from our own personal stories, ideas from books we've read, or things that we think are important to share with the world. Our first shirt simply said Breathe in Detroit. Sometimes, your breath is all you have to keep you going. Our next shirt was Kindness Is Really Hot, and it started to set the tone. Kindness, love, community, self-care, and making the world a better place are ideas we're all about.
How does your stuff fit? Why don't you offer bigger sizes?
Most of our items fit true to size. Some items are designed to be more fitted that others and we try to call that out in the product description. Some items may run on the smaller or larger size, and we try to mention that in descriptions as well. If you have questions about sizing, please send us an email or use the chat function on our website. We'll steer you in the right direction. If you let us know your usual size and/or measurements, we can definitely help you with sizing. If you have questions, please ask! We would rather get you the right size the first time than have to deal with returns and we know you would too.
What about bigger sizes? We get a lot of requests and comments about size inclusivity. We try hard to stock products that will fit everyone, regardless of size. Sometimes, larger sizes simply may not be available in a particular style, especially on some women's tanks. We know it can be frustrating. Please, please, contact us and ask about sizes. Sometimes we can find more sizes in a style that we don't regularly stock, or can give you size recommendations on different styles. We would love to find something that would work and we'll do our best.
I want to know more about fabrics and quality.
Our goal is to offer great value to our customers. That may not always mean the cheapest price. That means unique products, exceptional customer service, and the highest quality, affordable fabrics we can find. We try hard to find fabrics, styles, and fits that we think you'll love. We test a lot of samples from suppliers and most of them don't make the cut. Here's what some of our customers have to say:

Is your clothing ethically sourced and environmentally friendly?
Everything we do is a reflection of what matters to us. We only use clothing from WRAP certified suppliers (www.wrapcompliance.com). WRAP certification ensures a high level of environmental standards and humane working conditions. The majority of our styles also use eco-friendly fabrics that are made from organic cotton, post-consumer recycled polyester fabric, and low impact dyes.
We also make every effort to minimize our impact on the environment in every way we run our business. Where possible, we've switched to using recycled, compostable, and reusable poly mailers for the majority of our packages. This type of packaging is also lighter and easier to ship, reducing our carbon footprint even further. In our shop, we strive to minimize waste from our printing process and reuse/recycle wherever we can.
Our goal is to be carbon neutral with our entire business. To help make that a reality, we participate in donating to a portion of every package we ship to offset the carbon footprint of our shipping. This is done automatically based on the weight, distance, and carrier that is used for each package. Our donations are currently going to the Jari Para Forest Conservation Project in the Amazon Rainforest.

How do you make an impact?
We donate a percentage of sales to select non-profits that we've vetted for their efficient use of funds. Many companies donate a percentage of profits. By donating a portion of sales instead of profits, we always make sure we have something set aside for our donation program. It's one of the big reasons we started the company in the first place. Why did you start Breathe in Detroit?
Breathe in Detroit started as part of a healing journey from loss and recovery from addiction. It started as a single shirt that simply said, "Breathe in Detroit." That shirt was created to express the idea that no matter how hard things may be, or how broken we may feel, as long as we have our breath, we can find our way back. It's also a reflection of how our hometown of Detroit has gone through a healing process of its own over the past several years, and has come out of it with a new energy of optimism.
When people saw the first shirts, they loved the message. The original idea slowly grew to include more messages that we think are important to express. Putting them on a shirt and wearing them around is a unique way to share a thought or say something important that you believe in. We believe in kindness, generosity, community, and a never ending search to understand ourselves. We also believe in sharing stories, especially our hardest ones. Telling these stories can help us understand our own journey, and might just help someone better understand their's too.
We've heard over and over again from our customers how one of the messages on our shirts has helped them, had a deep meaning for them, or made their day a little better. At the end of it all, that's why we do what what we do. What better thing is there than that?
