Why we like these masks
Made from the recommended fabric for non-medical, protective masks. A recent study found that two layers of a woven fabric, like quilter's cotton, offers more protection than typical knit fabrics. These masks have those two layers (front and back), with an internal layer of organic cotton jersey for added protection.
The most environmentally friendly masks we could find. They're made from "upcycled" quilter's cotton sourced from high-quality remnants that normally become waste from large fabric mills. Not only do they allow effective reuse that prevents waste, they create almost no additional waste from production.
They are providing much needed jobs. They are hand made by home sewers in Cambodia. These sewers have been struggling due to reduced orders in the garment industry from COVID-19. In Cambodia, the garment industry is practically collapsing, and these workers have few income options. We're happy we could find a way to support them.
